Discover Our Process
We use the following process for every job that comes into our shop:
1. Review Design
The first step in our process is to review your design. Designs are typically sent to us in digital form, but if all you have is a sketch or some specifications, we can likely make it work.
2. Create NC Program
NC programs (numerical control programs) are the instructions CNC machines follow to do their job. We use our CAM (computer-aided manufacturing) software to convert the digital design into an NC program. We then inspect and simulate the program to find any issues that weren’t previously considered. It is also at this step that we make our initial decisions on which cutting tools and parameters to use.
3. Select Material and Supplier
You can either supply the material or ask us to supply it. There are advantages to both options.
If the material is particularly difficult to cut or something we’re not experienced with, we’ll get some samples and make sure we can do a good job with it before proceeding.
4. Tooling
Most jobs can be done with cutting tools we either have on hand or can easily obtain. If, however, your job requires a specialized tool, we will acquire the tool.
5. Fixturing
Similarly, most jobs can be done with our standard fixturing. If your job contains small or otherwise difficult-to-hold parts, we will create a custom fixture for the operation. Custom fixtures may involve specialized clamps or vacuum gasketing.
6. Test Cuts
If there is anything about your job that is unusual or unfamiliar to us, we will make some test cuts using the specified material and cutting parameters. We might make several sets of test cuts using different tooling and cutting parameters to zero-in on the best set of tools and parameters.
6. Run the Job, Inspect for Quality, Pack & Ship
When we’re satisfied that our cutting operations will provide the quality you need, we’ll run the job. We repeatedly inspect the results to ensure quality. If your job requires specialized packing for shipping, we’ll take care of that. The parts are then shipped to you.
